Dysgraphia, Fine Motor and Handwriting Skills

When: December 3, 2021

Description

Dysgraphia is a much “talked-about” topic in educational circles today. As it is relatively easy to identify when a student has a handwriting difficulty, it is not so easy to “chase the why”. This  workshop will demystify the different components necessary to consider in the variety of aspects considering the act of writing. We will consider what current research and literature postulates, as well as consider assessment and intervention. Therapy ideas will be shown through video and classroom strategies will be shared. As we are transitioning more and more into replacing typing for actual handwriting, we will also look at what the research really says about this. This course will cover theory, but also assessment and practical tips within each category. The professional will feel empowered to look deeper and consider more options to intervene successfully. Handwriting can be changed, though not only through the repeated actions of repeatedly practicing letters.

Reviews

I have learned so much that I can implement immediately. The understanding of the foundation skills is valuable. I will look at a student’s writing with new eyes. Loads of information!
Esme Strydom, New Zealand

As a teacher I will be able to better observe children and their hand strength/abilities with a more trained eye and help to better develop their pre writing and writing skills through appropriate intervention and activities that the whole class can use. I can also use these at home with my own child who is hypermobile and struggles so much with hand strength.
Catherine McMahon, South Africa

Amazing course, full of great knowledge, skills and practical examples! Definitely recommended for OT’s working with children who experience writing difficulties!
