DIR/Floortime in the School System

When: December 11, 2022

Description

How does one apply the Delopmental Individual Differences, Relationship Model (DIR) in the school system? How do you assess behavior in a developmental frame that makes sense to education? Is DIR only about “play” and does it hold any educational relevance at all? This workshop will use the 6 developmental milestones of Dr. Stanley Greenspan’s and provide clinical and educational reasoning with regards to applying this model in the school system. The attendee will receive an assessment questionnaire and video analysis will be used to support the learning curve. The DIR/Floortime model is very complimentary to many teaching models, including utilizing “teachable moments”, and the model of Sensory Integration and is not restricted to a certain age group. Professionals working in schools and pre-school settings, as well as private practice, will find this assessment tool and intervention strategies helpful in understanding different behaviors and targeting educational and clinical reasoning. Strategies will be shared to support learning behavior.

Reviews:

Wanted to let you know that after completing my course evaluation for the DIR webinar and going through my notes again, I came to the realization that I can say without reservation that this was the best course I have ever had. It will take me a while before it all seeps into my bones but I am compelled to keep reviewing and reviewing until it does. And what I have already absorbed has been so helpful with my work. Can’t thank you enough!

I was struck again and again during your presentation by your empathy for each child; by your understanding that no child or grown-up chooses his/her weakness. Rarely do I hear an approach that sees the world from the child’s vantage point, with empathy drawn from an in depth understanding of how the child is struggling to put the world together. You bridged together the multiplicity of systems that must develop and must eventually work together. My head was spinning. There were so many pieces to the puzzle! It is heartwarming that you and your colleagues are putting the pieces together for the child and family, and supporting all the various domains.
