Polyvagal Theory in Pediatric Practice From Science to Strategy

Dates: January 29, February 5, 12, 2026 From 2 to 3.30pm ET

Description: Every moment a child walks into your therapy space, their nervous system is already speaking—through movement, tone, breath, and gaze. This three-part webinar series takes you beneath the surface of behavior to explore what the Polyvagal Theory (Stephen Porges) reveals about safety, connection, and participation. Together, we’ll trace how the autonomic pathways shape regulation and engagement, and how state shifts influence sensory processing, motor planning, and learning. You’ll see how the science of the Vagus nerve translates into the small clinical choices that build trust, attunement, and progress. Each session brings theory into real practice— offering hands-on strategies you can use immediately to strengthen co-regulation and foster adaptive capacity in children and caregivers.

All sessions are recorded and posted if you cannot attend the live sessions.

Outline / Agenda:

Session 1 January 29, 2026: Autonomic Foundations and Clinical Meaning
The vagal pathways, neuroception, and the autonomic hierarchy as they shape behavior and occupation

Session 2 February 5, 2026: States in Action: Development, Sensation, Participation
How state interacts with sensory processing, motor planning, and learning; recognizing patterns across ASD, ADHD, anxiety, and trauma

Session 3 – February 12, 2026: Building Therapeutic Safety & Adaptive Capacity
Translating the Polyvagal lens across clinic, home, and school settings. Deepen your understanding of how co-regulation evolves into self-regulation through relational safety, attuned presence, and therapeutic rhythm. Explore how to build adaptive capacity—supporting flexibility, resilience, and participation in daily life across different environments.

Learning Objectives:

The participant will:

  • Deepen understanding of Polyvagal Theory and its relevance to regulation and participation
  • Identify state-based patterns in children and link them to clinical decision-making
  • Implement 2–3 polyvagal-informed strategies per session to foster safety, co-regulation, and emerging self-regulation
  • Cultivate awareness of the therapist’s own nervous system as a tool for co-regulation and for building therapeutic safety and adaptive capacity

Assessment: Completion of 12 multiple choice questions and Feedback Form

Certificate of attendance will be provided
