Bilateral Integration and Sequencing (Timing) Dyspraxia (BIS-T) – Recording

Description: Therapists, educators, and parents are continuously struggling to understand why some of their children continue to show difficulty in showing their intelligence. IQ scores may show big discrepancies in their verbal vs. their non-verbal ability, or it may show low overall IQ even as we know the child may be smarter than that. Or educators keep giving the message that the child is underperforming for their ability. This recorded workshop will focus on the very important building block of (BIS-T) and its’ implications with regards to occupational functioning. Theory will be provided, as well as assessment and multiple ideas, strategies, therapy techniques to support these building blocks, which will in turn support improved academic and social-emotional functioning. This workshop uncovers hidden difficulties that can be so elusive to the therapist. The science and evidence base will be discussed, as well as practical info on assessment and intervention through video.

Learning Objectives:

The participant will be able to:

  • Discuss 6 essential components of BIS-T that relates to occupational functioning
  • Consider the overlap of visual-spatial skill with visualizing for improved body image as well as tasks such as reading comprehension
  • List 3 aspects of Theory of Mind (ToM) that relates to especially social-emotional functioning
  • Plan assessment to include consideration of these important building blocks
  • Create intervention plans that will influence change in functional abilities

Bio: Maude Le Roux is an occupational therapist with an extensive following of professionals across the globe. She completed the SIPT training in 2002 and Sensory Integration forms the foundation from which she continues to develop different tracks of assessment and intervention. Maude is certified in multiple different techniques that she applies uniquely through her Developmental Pathways Model (DPM). She owns and directs a clinical practice in Glen Mills, PA, where she has a team of dedicated professionals, many of whom had been with her over 10 years as well as being with her since inception of her practice in 2001. Her requirement for practice is a warm, embracing atmosphere operated through clinical expertise and professionalism that will provide quality of care to all entering her practice. She gives back to her community by serving on different boards and currently serves on the Board of Directors for ATTACh, a national organization dedicated to serve families and children with attachment related difficulties and trauma informed care. She co-authored the book “Our Greatest Allies” in 2011 with Lauren O’Malley describing the journey of one autistic child.
