Description: These 3 recorded sessions of 90 minutes each will discuss important current thoughts pertinent to the autistic community with regards to assessment and intervention. Topics such as neurodiversity will be included as well as the importance of recognizing and accepting individual differences across the spectrum. Since the DSM-5 have included sensory processing as one of the symptoms pertaining to diagnosis, many young children have been getting the help they need sooner, even as this has also led to countless cases of misdiagnosis. We will discuss intervention in the light of respectfully supporting their profile, understanding the different stereotypical behaviors and “chasing the why” thereof in order to support their needs. Finally, we will take a deeper dive at intervention programs such as Applied Behavioral Analysis and DIR/Floortime, looking at the research that surrounds both methodologies and the impact both theories have in preparing the autistic for the future.
