Parenting Can be Tough! From Sinking to Standing!!

Description: Parenting can be a daunting challenge with typically developing children, and even more so when children are surviving developmental delays, may have experienced childhood trauma), and/or are struggling to learn. During this workshop series, we will provide theory and research, though most of all, practical tips based on the neuroscience. Every parent should have this information. Every therapist should know how to support their families through the mire of information and different theories out there. The information presented will represent a multitude of different theories and trainings, including Interpersonal Neurobiology, Sensory Processing and Polyvagal theory.

Babette wants you to know: “Attempts to parent our 4 adopted children left my husband & me feeling battered & woefully incompetent for 17 years. We reached out to countless “specialists”, and sadly sank even further by following their outdated advice. Thankfully, I discovered a whole new approach to parenting children from tough backgrounds. We used this on our children and have had huge improvements. I would like to share my new insights with you!!”  These 4 webinars from both a parent and therapist lens will be insightful and applicable to whatever frame the participants bring to the table. It is a one-of-a-kind series not to be missed!

"This helps me to understand my child's behavior and how I can respond to them and why I respond the way I do."

"Most of the material I already knew, but the context and examples were affirming and encouraging. "

I mainly did the course in my capacity as a parent. But I am now also able to give my clients better advice on what is appropriate behaviour. I realised that parents expect children to do/not do certain things, where it is still age appropriate and very necessary for them to do it. As a parent I feel like I have more time to listen to my child now. And to listen to the underlying message, instead of just viewing her behaviour as being naughty. The course really helped me to parent better! Ingrid van der Westhuizen, OT (South Africa)
