Description: Dyspraxia is frequently a "hidden" disability causing great pain in many children and adults struggling with attention, executive functioning, social-communication and learning disorders. Sensory processing / integration is a theory that underlies many different diagnostic categories across the developmental continuum today. Many professionals discuss it, a large number attend some training in it, though fewer professionals fully understand the depth and breadth of this underlying mechanism to development. Dyspraxia is an important layer in this sensory-motor developmental continuum. The different types of dyspraxia drive crucial differences identified in assessment and causes very different approaches to intervention. Maude will clarify Dyspraxia in a clear, practical way, providing the participant information that will inform and guide clinical practice and understanding. This workshop is considered track 1 of a three-part series of which Track 2 would be Assessment and Track 3 would cover Intervention.

Learning Objectives:
- Identify three types of Dyspraxia influencing occupational performance as a school student.
- List 2 visual pathways in the brain that would play a role in ideation, critical for creativity as well as sensory-motor ability
- Differentiate between proprioception, deep touch and light touch as it pertains to the registration of information when considering movement or the use of tools.
- Discuss 2 primary reflexes that would inhibit the development of bilateral integration ultimately impacting on interhemispheric organization.
- List 6 visual and auditory skills that will impact on the development of reading and writing skill
- Differentiate between a “jaw jut” and a “jaw slide” as it pertains to feeding and oral motor skill.
- Consider 3 measurements in body musculature that is important for sustained endurance in sensory-motor ability.
- Discuss 4 different types of Modulation Disorders involved in the behavior patterns of developing children.
- Identify at least 3 different functions of interoception that is instrumental for everyday functioning
- Recognize the importance of play and development and problem-solving skill in social-emotional health and wellbeing

Bio: Maude Le Roux is an occupational therapist with an extensive following of professionals across the globe. She studies human development in different capacities of growth; spanning ages and stages, neuroanatomy, assessment tools as well as current trends of intervention. She completed the SIPT training in 2002 and Sensory Integration forms the foundation from which she continues to develop different tracks of assessment and intervention. Maude is certified in multiple different techniques that she applies uniquely through her Developmental Pathways Model (DPM). She owns and directs a clinical practice in Glen Mills, PA, where she directs a team of dedicated OT. SLP and DIR/Floortime professionals. She gives back to her community by serving on different boards and currently serves on the Board of Directors for ATTACh, a national organization dedicated to serve families and children with attachment related difficulties and trauma informed care. She co-authored the book “Our Greatest Allies” in 2011 with Lauren O’Malley describing the journey of one autistic child.
