Description: This 3-session Sandplay consultation seminar offers a unique opportunity to explore Sandplay case material through the shared lenses of Occupational therapy, Developmental theory, and Jungian theory. During each session, a student will present clinical material for consultation. Co-facilitated by Maude Le Roux, OTR/L and Betty Jackson, LCSW, CST-T, the seminar will examine case material presented with a focus on the interface between Sandplay’s multiple aspects; sensory-motor, imaginative, relational, symbolic, and archetypal. - Participants will be able to identify the client’s sensori-motor stage of development evident in the Sandplay case material presented.
- Participants will be able to identify the developmental level of relational play evident in the Sandplay case material presented.
October 5th, 2023
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to explain the importance of pre-verbal sensori-motor play as a foundation for emotional development.
- Participants will be able to describe how Sandplay offers an integrative bridge between pre-verbal sensory-motor play and imaginative play with symbolic narrative.
October 19th, 2023
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify the transition from sensory to symbolic play i a series of at least three consecutive sandtrays.
- Participants will be able to interpret the symbolic meaning of at least three sand forms in a series of at least three consecutive sandtrays.
Assessment: Completion of Feedback Form

Bio: Betty Jackson, LSW, CST-T is a licensed clinical social worker and certified sandplay therapist with over 40 years of experience in school, mental health agency, and private practice settings. She began her Sandplay training with Dora Kalff in 1975 and became a Teaching Member of Sandplay Therapists of America and the International Society for Sandplay Therapy in 1991. She has authored several articles for the Journal of Sandplay Therapy, serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Sandplay Therapy, and teaches Sandplay nationally and internationally. She has the honor of being a Guest Professor for the Oriental Academy for Analytical Psychology and Sandplay in Guangzhou, China. Ms. Jackson maintains a part-time private practice at her home office in southeastern Pennsylvania where she has established The Center for Jungian Sandplay in order to offer Sandplay process, consultation, and training in the tradition of Dora Kalff.
