ADHD and Executive Functioning – Recording

Description: This recorded 6-session course will describe the different nuances and overlap between ADHD and Executive Functioning. It can be very difficult for practitioners to discern the difference between a client struggling with a Sensory Processing Disorder (Developmental Delay) and ADHD, as well as determine the overlap of Executive Functioning in both diagnostic categories. Current thoughts and theorists as well as research will be covered in moderate depth. Important aspects of learning such as working memory and the building blocks that support building working memory in the brain will be included. Aspects such as processing speed and working memory in the diagnosis of ADHD as it also overlaps into an IQ score and applies to everyday, occupational function will be considered. Coping strategies of day dreaming and visualization will be discussed through the lens of the central nervous system to determine clinical reasoning as to the possible “why” a client is being distracted. This course will include a developmental hierarchy of building attention in the brain and is a “one-of-a-kind” course designed to empower professionals and parents to positively impact on this diagnosis in creative ways. This course will be considered the foundational course on the Bronze level, discussing theory, in preparation for the Silver level of clinical assessment.
