Description: Bilateral integration is far more than crossing the body's midline. It is a developmental process that begins before birth and continues throughout childhood as the two sides of the body—and ultimately the two hemispheres of the brain—learn to work together as one integrated system. Every child who sits upright, reaches with purpose, reads across a page, catches a ball, ties shoes, writes fluently, regulates emotions, or solves complex problems depends upon this remarkable developmental journey. Yet bilateral integration difficulties are often misunderstood or oversimplified. Children may present with clumsiness, poor coordination, delayed handwriting, inefficient visual tracking, challenges in motor planning, executive dysfunction, emotional dysregulation, or academic struggles without clinicians fully recognizing the underlying developmental mechanisms contributing to these difficulties.
This advanced five-part series take participants on a developmental journey from the body's earliest organization around the midline to the sophisticated interhemispheric communication that supports higher-level cognition, learning, and participation. Integrating neuroscience, sensory integration, developmental theory, motor control, vision science, and clinical reasoning, participants will learn how bilateral integration influences every aspect of pediatric development. Each session combines current theory with practical assessment strategies, differential clinical reasoning, case-based learning, and immediately applicable intervention techniques that can be implemented across clinic, school, early intervention, and home environments.

Discover how bilateral integration begins long before a child intentionally crosses midline. Explore embryological development, primitive reflexes, vestibular processing, postural control, body schema, and the emergence of a stable midline orientation that serves as the foundation for all coordinated movement.
Session 2: October 7, 2026, From Body to Action: Praxis, Motor Planning, and Coordinated Movement
Move beyond simple crossing-midline activities to understand how bilateral integration supports purposeful movement, motor planning, sequencing, timing, trunk rotation, weight shifting, and skilled bimanual coordination.
Session 3: October 14, 2026, The Eyes Lead the Brain: Visual-Motor and Visual-Vestibular Integration
Explore how bilateral integration extends beyond movement into vision and perception. Learn how visual tracking, convergence, binocular vision, vestibulo-ocular function, spatial orientation, and visual attention contribute to reading, handwriting, classroom performance, and daily occupations.
Session 4: October 21, 2026, Two Hemispheres, One Mind: Interhemispheric Communication and Higher-Level Function
Discover how bilateral integration evolves into efficient communication between the cerebral hemispheres, supporting executive functioning, language, emotional regulation, memory, problem solving, and complex learning.
Session 5 – Clinical Integration: Assessment, Differential Diagnosis, and Intervention Planning
Bring together the concepts from the previous sessions through advanced clinical reasoning and case-based application. Learn how bilateral integration presents across different neurodevelopmental profiles and how to design individualized intervention plans that address underlying mechanisms rather than isolated symptoms.

Presenter: Maude Le Roux, OTR/L, SIPT, ADHD-RSP, DIR Champion and Expert Training Leader
Bio: Maude Le Roux is a global trainer in multiple methodologies and a mentor to therapists from multidisciplinary teams. She opened her practice, A Total Approach in Glen Mills, PA, USA in 2001. Maude started her training career in 2007 and opened her online academy in 2019. She has designed the Developmental Pathways Model (DPM), which she applies to her own unique assessment and intervention protocol for major diagnosis such as Dyspraxia, ADHD and Executive Functions, Autism, Reading and Writing Disorders, and Trauma and Attachment. Maude served 9 years on the Board of Directors for ATTACh and currently serves on their Advisory Board. She also serves on the Advisory Board for LSWorks (Neuralign program). She is a co-author of two books and more recently wrote a chapter on Trauma and the Body in “Healing Connections” which launched in September 2024. Maude received an award for “Continued child advocacy” through the ATTACh organization in September 2024. She also received the Champion Award through ICDL in November 2024. Maude has a “whole child” approach to care and intervention and equipping the child, while empowering the parent is at the core of who she is as a clinician and trainer.
