Description: Dyspraxia is essentially a motor neuron disorder that impacts on how we plan our movement patterns in a timed sequential manner, influencing the growth of our academic, social-emotional, and executive skills.

In this updated 6-session series the focus would be on intervention principles, guidelines and strategies that support successful outcomes. Demonstration videos that will support the learning are included.

Together we will uncover the success and adaptability of the Developmental Pathways Model (DPM) as it flows through the different stages of intervention. The sub-categories of Dyspraxia will be highlighted with differences in duration and frequency of treatment as well as supportive thinking as to which interventions / strategies would be best in different situations. Clinical thinking will be emphasized, and therapists will feel empowered to truly create change in their clients!

This intervention series would form the material for Track 3 and conclude this diagnostic category.

Learning Objectives: Participants will:

Session 1:

• List 10 guiding principles for effective intervention
• Consider 3 phases of the developmental hierarchy to plan intervention.

Session 2:

• Identify 3 common characteristics shared in Sensory Modulation and Emotional Regulation
• Consider at least 10 activities that would support growth in patterns of hyper- or hypo-arousal to support an even homeostasis in the body.

Session 3:

• List at least 3 important considerations to impact on interoception
• Consider at least 10 activities that would support the efficient registration of information across the Vestibular, Touch and Proprioception Triad

Session 4:

• Focus on 5 vestibular elements to consider as it relates to the peripheral senses of the auditory and visual systems.
• List at least 10 activities that would support the synchrony in the vestibular, auditory, and visual triad.

Session 5:

• Define two subcategories of Dyspraxia and its corresponding intervention protocol.
• Consider the impact of timing and sequencing on precision and coordination of motor movement.

Session 6:

• Plan for 5 stages of development to consider when supporting development of bilateral integration.
• Include 5 strategies for promoting visual-spatial skills, including the coordination of central and peripheral vision during sessions.

Speaker: Maude Le Roux OTR/L, SIPT, International Trainer

Bio: Maude Le Roux is an inspiration to many professionals and parents across the globe.  Her workshops are popular and previous feedback included much praise. Maude was born and raised in South Africa and graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town in 1984. Maude and Charl Le Roux moved to the USA in 1993 and opened A Total Approach in September 2001. Maude is SIPT certified and specializes in Sensory Integration services as it applies to functional activities of daily living, including improving the ability of children / students of all ages to partake in their learning environment. 

Maude uses the practice of Sensory Integration at her center as a base for all her work. She designs her own live courses with regards to different areas of development and the impact on functional performance, activities of daily living, including the impact on academic performance. Maude works with a team of occupational therapists and speech language pathologists in her center She is well known for her experience and work with children with multiple different diagnosis, ages and stages and has expanded her work to adults, who continue to struggle with sensory processing. Maude has been trained in the DIR/Floortime Method since the late 90’s and became an expert training leader for ICDL in 2011. Her center is recognized as a DIR Certified center in the US. She is a mentor to many therapists, including OT, SLP and DIR professionals internationally. She opened the Maude Le Roux Academy online in January 2019. Maude has presented at conferences in a variety of settings across the US and internationally. She has co-authored the book, The Listening Journey, with Francoise Nicoloff, and her second book, Our Greatest Allies, is available on Amazon.com.
