Description: This webinar series offers an exploration of key aspects of autism, providing valuable insights for educators, caregivers, professionals, and anyone looking to better understand the complexities of the autistic experience. Over three engaging sessions, participants will delve into crucial topics such as the relationship between autism and trauma, the overlapping characteristics of autism, ADHD, and dyspraxia, and the phenomenon of autism masking. Through science-based discussions, case examples, and practical strategies, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by autistic individuals and learn effective ways to provide support. Whether you're looking to expand your knowledge, strengthen your professional skills, or provide better support to those you care about, this series is designed to equip you with the tools and insights necessary to promote inclusivity, neurodiversity, empathy, and understanding within your community.

Outline / Agenda:

Session 1: August 6, 2025,                                                                    Autism and Trauma – How trauma effects autistics and trigger autistic traits

Session 2: August 13, 2025,                                                                      Is it Autism, ADHD, Dyspraxia or Combination? – Explore the commonalities and differences

Session 3: August 20, 2025,                                                                  Autism Masking – Conceptualizing masking while considering its impact on mental health     

Learning Objectives:

The participant will be able to:

Session1:

  • Deconstruct trauma's unique impact on autistic individuals, specifically how sensory sensitivities and social challenges increase vulnerability to traumatic experiences
  • List practical, trauma-informed strategies for validating and supporting autistics in both personal and professional settings, fostering environments of safety and emotional regulation.

Session 2:

  • Consider how to differentiate between autism, ADHD, and dyspraxia by recognizing their shared traits and distinctive characteristics, ensuring more accurate hypothesis and tailored intervention
  • Strengthen skills in implementing inclusive strategies for individuals with multiple neurodivergent conditions, facilitating effective accommodations and interventions in educational or workplace settings

Session 3:

  • Increase awareness of the psychological and emotional toll of masking on autistics, and how it may affect their mental health and self-identity
  • Create inclusive environments that reduce the need for masking, fostering self-acceptance and authentic expression in autistic individuals across various settings

Certificate of attendance will be provided. CE for occupational therapists have been applied for through NOTCB

Speaker: Presenter: Maude Le Roux, OTR/L, SIPT, DIR Champion and Expert Training Leader

Bio: Maude Le Roux is a global trainer in multiple methodologies and a mentor to therapists from multidisciplinary teams. She opened her practice, A Total Approach in Glen Mills, PA, USA in 2001, and the satellite office in Allentown, PA in 2023. Maude started her training career in 2007 and opened her online academy in 2019. She has designed the Developmental Pathways Model (DPM), which she applies to her own unique assessment and intervention protocol for major diagnosis such as Dyspraxia, ADHD and Executive Functions, Autism, Reading and Writing Disorders, and Trauma and Attachment. Maude served 9 years on the Board of Directors for ATTACh and currently serves on their Advisory Board. She also serves on the Advisory Board for LSWorks (Neuralign program). She is a co-author of two books and more recently wrote a chapter on Trauma and the Body in “Healing Connections” which launched in September 2024. Maude received an award for “Continued child advocacy” through the ATTACh organization in September 2024. She also received the Champion Award through ICDL in November 2024. Maude has a “whole child” approach to care and intervention and equipping the child, while empowering the parent is at the core of who she is as a clinician and trainer.
