Description: Join us for a recorded 3-part webinar series on DIR/Floortime® and its profound impact on developing the essential skills for academic proficiency. In Part 1, we will explore how DIR/Floortime® fosters regulation, engagement, and relating, forming the foundation for emotional well-being and group social interactions that are critical for academic success. Part 2 will focus on the development of two-way communication and imaginary thinking, key skills that support visualization, creativity, problem-solving, working memory and collaboration in learning environments. In Part 3, we will dive into the development of symbolic and logical thinking, essential for academic tasks such as reading, writing, and mathematical reasoning. Throughout this series, we will highlight how DIR/Floortime® not only supports emotional and cognitive growth but also enhances key academic skills, helping children reach their full potential in the classroom. Whether you're an educator, therapist, or parent, this series will equip you with the tools to foster academic proficiency through the DIR/Floortime® model. 

Outline / Agenda:  

Session 1: Regulation and attention and executive functioning 

Session 2: Problem-solving, Ideation and sound symbol interaction for reading and math 

Session 3: Creative imagination, reading comprehension and written expression 

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this 3-part series, participants will be able to: 

  • List characteristics of 3 key components to the DIR/Floortime® Model: emotional regulation, engagement and social relating 
  • Gain practical strategies for fostering two-way communication and imaginative thinking, enhancing the student’s ability to collaborate, express ideas, and engage effectively in academic settings 
  • Discuss how DIR/Floortime® supports the development of critical cognitive and emotional skills, such as executive functions and social engagement, that directly contribute to a student’s academic readiness and success 
  • Consider the development of symbolic and logical thinking, crucial for academic tasks like problem-solving, reading comprehension, and mathematical reasoning 
  • Include ideas centered around collaboration between parents and educators using DIR/Floortime® principles, ensuring a consistent approach to promoting both emotional development and academic proficiency across environments

Presenter: Maude Le Roux, OTR/L, SIPT, DIR Champion and Expert Training Leader 

Bio: Maude Le Roux is a global trainer in multiple methodologies and a mentor to therapists from multidisciplinary teams. She opened her practice, A Total Approach in Glen Mills, PA, USA in 2001, and the satellite office in Allentown, PA in 2023. Maude started her training career in 2007 and opened her online academy in 2019. She has designed the Developmental Pathways Model (DPM), which she applies to her own unique assessment and intervention protocol for major diagnosis such as Dyspraxia, ADHD and Executive Functions, Autism, Reading and Writing Disorders, and Trauma and Attachment. Maude served 9 years on the Board of Directors for ATTACh and currently serves on their Advisory Board. She also serves on the Advisory Board for LSWorks (Neuralign program). She is a co-author of two books and more recently wrote a chapter on Trauma and the Body in “Healing Connections” which launched in September 2024. Maude received an award for “Continued child advocacy” through the ATTACh organization in September 2024. She also received the Champion Award through ICDL in November 2024. Maude has a “whole child” approach to care and intervention and equipping the child, while empowering the parent is at the core of who she is as a clinician and trainer.
