Description: So many students are struggling in the classroom environment. They may have agile minds and average IQs, but they consistently lose track of instruction, appear to be distracted and frequently learn to dislike going to school. Parents are frustrated as they try to make sense of motivating their child. Educators are frustrated as their well-prepared lessons and good intentions appear not to reach all their intended audience. The classroom environment itself can contribute to inattention and focus, though the internal world of the nervous system can also be particularly intrusive when needing to engage in learning. This short, recorded workshop series will take a deeper look at this increasing phenomenon and consider the impact of both the sensory and emotional expectations of classrooms today. Included would be multiple tips and ideas to support whole groups and individuals in our bid for maintaining curious minds in the learning environment.

- Educators who currently have more students that needs support than ever before and consequently need to adapt in ever increasing ways

Learning Objectives:
The workshop participant will be able to:
- Consider at least 20 accommodations in the physical environment that will support different learning styles in a classroom setting
- Apply the idea of a sensory diet through considering the classroom schedule and little ideas that can create larger impact over diverse profiles
- List 8 sensory systems to consider in student profiles
- Create effective “mini”-ideas to support individual profiles in the larger group context, while considering the time needed to support curriculum goals
- Ponder over their “use of self” in the context of the educational relationship between the educator, related services and the students.

Presenter: Maude Le Roux is a veteran OT with 39+ years of experience and has experience in multiple methodologies that she has used successfully in pediatric care. She has formed her own work from multiple exposures to other thought leaders and included this in her eclectic approach to development across multiple diagnostic categories. Maude is a highly skilled therapist and has been training professionals and parents globally in her methods since 2007. She has presented at several international and national conferences and operates a full training schedule year-round. She co-authored her book “Our Greatest Allies” with Lauren O’Malley (parent), which reflects the journey of one child as he went through the process at her center. Her unique understanding of sensori-motor and socio-emotional development is rooted in research completed in Sensory Integration as well as Mental Health, to which she adds her own flavor of “getting into the mind of a child”. Maude understands children and she is frequently heard to say: “If the child could, he/she would”!
