Description:  Developmental Trauma shows up in multiple different forms in a variety of different ways. For some it may have been a “once only” experience, for others it may have been ongoing adverse experiences impacting on brain maturation considering efficient adaptive responses to the learning and social environment. There is no “one size fits all” approach to the neurodiversity we see in our workplace today. The DIR/Floortime® Model forms a wonderful lens that includes our individual differences as well as considers the social-emotional developmental ladder supporting our relationships. The “use of self” is a key factor when considering trust and security as necessary influences on the impact of trauma. During intervention the attachment relationship is held, contained, and supported in such a way that it frees the individual to explore their world at their own pace to gain the necessary integration, while also building the resilience and efficiency in the body and mind to counter the impact of developmental trauma. Attendees will gain access to an assessment questionnaire developed by the speaker considering different aspects relating trauma to the DIR/Floortime® Model. We will follow the journey of a resilient young girl through video footage as she worked her way through the developmental ladder. Her grandmother will be interviewed regarding her process as her story unfolds throughout the 4 sessions. We will witness her remarkable development with gratitude to this family as they enable us to learn from this amazing young girl.

Session 4: August 16, 2023                 Deepening the symbolic experience and finding logic  (FEDC 5 and 6)

Learning Objectives: 

Session 1:

• Describe working definitions of trauma, empathy and resilience
• Summarize the short view of the 6 functional emotional developmental capacities of Drs. Stanley Greenspan and Serena Wieder

Session 2:

• Frame 5 essential elements of regulation in support of foundational skill
• View the impact of the therapeutic use of self in support of regulation and attunement

Session 3:

• Build a framework of 10 guidelines to support efficiency in praxis and sequencing
• View the use of gentle playful obstruction in support of negotiating problem-solving skill through body awareness and social-emotional experience

Session 4:

• Consider 3 aspects of constructing empathy within the use of self using play
• Access a questionnaire that considers aspects of trauma and attachment as applied to the DIR/Floortime® Model

Presenter: Maude Le Roux OTR/L, IMC, SIPT, CTC, DIR-FT International Trainer

Bio: Maude Le Roux is an occupational therapist with an extensive following of professionals across the globe. She studies human development in different capacities of growth, spanning ages and stages, neuroanatomy, assessment tools as well as current trends of intervention. She completed the SIPT training in 2002 and Sensory Integration forms the foundation from which she continues to develop different tracks of assessment and intervention. Maude is certified in multiple different techniques that she applies uniquely through her Developmental Pathways Model (DPM). She completed her DIR/Floortime® certificate in 2005 and has been an Expert Training Leader for ICDL since 2011. She owns and directs a clinical practice in Glen Mills, PA, where she has become known for her effective assessment and intervention protocol. While she trains globally, Maude continues to operate this active practice to continue to inform her work and develop the case studies from which she expands her assessment and intervention protocol. Her requirement for practice is a warm, embracing atmosphere operated through clinical expertise and professionalism that will provide quality of care to all entering her practice. She gives back to her community by serving on different boards and currently serves on the Board of Directors for ATTACh, an international organization dedicated to serve families and children with attachment related difficulties and trauma informed care. She co-authored the book “Our Greatest Allies” in 2011 with Lauren O’Malley describing the journey of one child also describing the DIR/Floortime® Method.
