Brain Networks in Action: Transforming Pediatric Therapy with Neuroscience-Informed Interventions

Dates: 5 consecutive Thursdays, 2:00–3:30pm ET
Feb19, 26, March 12, 19, 26,  2026

Description: Are you ready to bring the latest brain science straight into your therapy room?
This five-part webinar series is designed to empower pediatric therapists, allied health professionals, educators, and psychologists with a clear, practical roadmap from neuroscience to intervention. Across five 90-minute sessions, you’ll dive into the fascinating world of brain networks—how they develop, how they influence behavior and learning, and how disruptions show up in the children you work with every day. Each session bridges the gap between theory and practice by combining:

  • Neuroscience foundations:
    • Demystifying complex brain processes in a therapist-friendly way
  • Relevance to diagnostic categories
    • Understanding ADHD, autism, anxiety, trauma, and more through the lens of brain networks
  • Pediatric therapy application and assessment
    • Translating science into functional insights you can apply right away
  • Intervention strategies
    • Practical, evidence-informed approaches to support self-regulation, learning, and participation

This is not just theory—it’s a toolbox for your practice. You’ll leave each webinar with actionable strategies, new perspectives to guide your assessments, and interventions that resonate with both children and families. Whether you’re looking to deepen your neuro-informed practice, strengthen your clinical reasoning, or refresh your approach to intervention, this series will give you the confidence and clarity to connect brain science with everyday therapy.

Join us to transform neuroscience into meaningful action—because when therapists understand the brain, children thrive.

Outline / Agenda:

Session 1 February 19, 2026: The Default Mode Network (DMN): Self, Memory & Regulation

  • Neuroscience: Core hubs (mPFC, PCC, hippocampus) and their role in self-awareness, memory, and social cognition.
  • Clinical Relevance: Overactive in depression/rumination; altered in ADHD and autism.
  • Therapy Lens: Impacts self-awareness, perspective-taking, and social participation.
  • Practical Tools: Mindfulness, grounding, narrative therapy, and strategies for shifting between task and rest states.

Session 2 February 26, 2026: The Central Executive Network (CEN): Executive Function in Action

  • Neuroscience: Prefrontal and parietal hubs supporting working memory, planning, and inhibition.
  • Clinical Relevance: Challenges in ADHD, TBI, and learning disabilities.
  • Therapy Lens: Direct connection to independence, school skills, and daily functioning.
  • Practical Tools: Scaffolding executive tasks, visual schedules, metacognitive coaching, and environmental supports.

Session 3 March 12, 2026: The Salience Network (SN): Attention, Switching & Emotional Relevance

  • Neuroscience: Insula and cingulate hubs for filtering input and shifting networks.
  • Clinical Relevance: Altered salience in autism, anxiety, PTSD.
  • Therapy Lens: Links directly to sensory processing and emotional regulation.
  • Practical Tools: Sensory modulation, co-regulation, interoception strategies, and graded exposure.

Session 4 March 19, 2026: The Limbic Network: Emotion, Memory & Motivation

  • Neuroscience: Amygdala, hippocampus, and orbitofrontal cortex in emotion and memory.
  • Clinical Relevance: Trauma, attachment challenges, mood disorders, autism differences.
  • Therapy Lens: Central in play, emotional literacy, and coping skills.
  • Practical Tools: Co-regulation to self-regulation, Play/DIRFloortime, emotion labeling, and storytelling.

Session 5 March 26, 2026: The Somatomotor Network (SMN): Body, Movement & Participation

  • Neuroscience: Motor and sensory cortices driving action and body schema.
  • Clinical Relevance: Dyspraxia, CP, motor challenges in autism/ADHD.
  • Therapy Lens: Foundations for self-care, play, handwriting, and sports.
  • Practical Tools: Task-specific training, sensorimotor interventions, rhythm and play-based strategies.

Every session blends neuroscience foundations with hands-on therapy applications, assessments, and interventions you can implement immediately in your practice.

Learning Objectives:

Session 1: The Default Mode Network (DMN): Self, Memory & Regulation

  1. Participants will be able to identify the core brain regions and functions of the DMN and describe how they relate to self-awareness, memory, and regulation.
  2. Participants will be able to apply intervention strategies such as mindfulness, grounding, and narrative-based approaches to support children with DMN-related challenges in self-regulation and social participation.

Session 2: The Central Executive Network (CEN): Executive Function in Action

  1. Participants will be able to explain the role of the CEN in executive functions including working memory, planning, and inhibition, and its disruption in ADHD, TBI, and learning disorders.
  2. Participants will be able to integrate evidence-informed therapy strategies (e.g., scaffolding tasks, visual schedules, metacognitive coaching) to enhance executive functioning in pediatric clients.

Session 3: The Salience Network (SN): Attention, Switching & Emotional Relevance

  1. Participants will be able to describe the functions of the salience network in detecting and prioritizing stimuli and explain its relevance in autism, anxiety, and PTSD.
  2. Participants will be able to implement therapy-based interventions such as sensory modulation, interoception activities, and co-regulation techniques to support attention-shifting and emotional regulation.

Session 4: The Limbic Network: Emotion, Memory & Motivation

  1. Participants will be able to analyze the role of the limbic system in emotional regulation, memory, and motivation, with specific application to trauma, attachment, and mood disorders.
  2. Participants will be able to select and adapt therapeutic approaches (e.g., DIR/Floortime, Play, emotion labeling) to promote emotional literacy and coping in children.

Session 5: The Somatomotor Network (SMN): Body, Movement & Participation

  1. Participants will be able to summarize the functions of the somatomotor network in motor planning, sensorimotor integration, and body schema, and link these to diagnoses such as Dyspraxia, CP, and autism.
  2. Participants will be able to apply task-specific training and sensorimotor interventions to improve children’s participation in self-care, handwriting, play, and movement-based occupations.
