ADHD and Executive Functioning

This workshop is only open for a select group in California. If anyone else outside of the list of registrants we have wishes to join, please contact [email protected]

Description

This recorded 6-session workshop will describe the different nuances and overlap between ADHD and Executive Functioning. It can be very difficult for school therapists (as well as clinicians) to discern the difference between a client struggling with a Sensory Processing Disorder (Developmental Delay) and ADHD, as well as determine the overlap of Executive Functioning in both diagnostic categories. Current thoughts and theorists as well as research will be covered in moderate depth. Executive functions such as organization, planning, goal persistence, task initiation and others will be covered. Aspects such as processing speed and working memory in the diagnosis of ADHD as it relays into handwriting, reading, working memory and learning will be covered. Coping strategies of day dreaming and visualization will be discussed through the lens of the central nervous system to determine clinical reasoning as to the possible “why” a student is being distracted, impulsive or impatient. This workshop will include different types of attention and is a "one-of-a-kind" program designed to empower therapists to positively impact on this diagnosis in creative ways.
